Jones Chews – The Best Treats in the World (& Giveaway)

Is that a little ostentatious? Are Jones Chews the best treats in the world? Maybe it’s just opinion. Because how on earth would I back that up with fact? Hmm.

Today is another giveaway day, this being July and our one year blogaversary. So leave a comment today for a chance to win a Crown Knuckle or some Steer Sticks. I’m a little stuck on this “Best Treats in the World” thought, though. I think I’d like to try proving it. Yes! Let’s!

Beginning with a satisfied dog mom is a good place. Here’s what one such mom has to say:
I’m a dog mom and pet blogger and I discovered your brand at BlogPaws and was excited to see that you’re carried at our local pet store.  Our dogs are on a raw food diet and one thing that I didn’t anticipate was finding treats that they could/should eat now that their nutrition has been elevated.  So I’ve become a big fan of your products because I feel comfortable giving them to our dogs and they love them.

I just wanted to drop you a note saying THANK YOU.  Today, it’s so disappointing to see so many treats with questionable ingredients and origins and it’s wonderful to know that there is one company out there that makes it all less complicated.

Kimberly, Keep the Tail Wagging

Oh wow. Y’all know Kimberly, right? Keep the Tail Wagging? She’s a finalist for the Petties? Go vote for her! She says her dogs are raw foodists and Jones is one of the few treats she feels comfortable allowing them to eat! Thank you, Kimberly, for the glowing endorsement!

But there’s got to be more than just personal anecdote. Kimberly mentions treats with questionable ingredients and origins. And Jones Chews are 100% all natural, with very few ingredients to begin with, much less being made with nothing artificial. The chews are also 100% grown and made in the USA. No hinky language covering our tracks – all USA farms and farmers and ingredients, then processed in Jones facilities in northern Illinois. Period. End of story.

What exactly are the Jones Chews ingredients, though? Why would their ingredients be better than other chews? I’m going to look at three treats as representatives of Jones Natural Chews, as an example. The first two are being featured here this month, the Crown Knuckle and the Steer Sticks.

yummy crown knuckle
NOM NOM NOM – can’t get enough of that Crown Knuckle!

Crown Knuckles are made of a beef tibia knuckle from the hind leg of a cow, dipped in natural liquid smoke and baked. That’s it. Knuckle and natural liquid smoke.

Steer Sticks are baked steer pizzles. That’s is. Baked. If you want to know what a steer pizzle is, check out my post from a couple weeks back. It’s rated PG.

Last, the Tender Taffy Chicken Blend, since the taffies require more ingredients, and chicken shakes things up a bit. Chicken, rye flour, glycerin, salt, liquid smoke flavoring, natural mixed tocopherols, rosemary extract. Let’s break that down.

Chicken is chicken. Rye flour is the only flour Jones uses, as it’s somewhat low as an allergen, and it’s not used in bones and pizzles. Here’s what Jones says about glycerin:
Glycerin is a by-product from vegetable oils and corn. The viscosity of glycerin gives it an antibacterial property. There are natural and synthetic types of glycerin, but Jones only uses the natural glycerin.
Salt is salt. The liquid smoke flavoring is all natural, giving treats the darker color and yummy flavor.  Tocopherols are vitamin E supplements found naturally in vegetable oils like olive, sunflower, soy and corn. Rosemary extract is natural and is used to improve food’s shelf life and heat stability. Cool, huh?

Ultimately, there’s no way to prove that Jones has the best treats in the world. They have the best ingredients, yes. Dogs love them, yes. Shoot, they make dogs smile.

Klondike does his Elvis impression
Granted, it’s an Elvis smile …

But I’m going to leave y’all with a video to make my point.

Go ahead and leave a comment. You know you want your dog to try the best treats in the world.

Until I write again …

P.S. You should be able to find Jones Chews in a pet or feed store near you. Here in Oklahoma they’re carried in the Atwoods chains. If you can’t find them locally, Natural Dog Treat Shop carries everything Jones makes.

  1. Ok Flea…I’m trying again to get that crown knuckle for my sister. I just know she would love it and being a fine 11 yr old lady dog, she deserves it. Katie and I are also voting 4 paws up each for Jones Treats being the best in the world! Where else can I get decent wabbit jerky, I mean seriously! We love Jones Treats and are enjoying the big bag of lungs Mom bought the other day for us 🙂

  2. Thanks for the quote, link, and shout out for a vote! I can’t tell you enough how much we love Jones! Our dogs are huge fans and I have to admit that I’ve turned a few strangers on to you when I see them about to grab a bag of rawhide chews and I give them the combo pack – SUCH AN AWESOME DEAL – instead. Eventually this is going to bite me in the butt when the store runs out. Guess I’ll have to order online!

  3. We would sure love a crown knuckle and some pizzle. I think we’d fight over the knuckle but we’d still like one. No-one sells them near us and shipping was too pricey so I had to pass the online store, but I’m not giving up hope that someone will pick them up!!

  4. Okay, how about this. If the Steer Sticks prize comes in a number divisible by 3, my pups want that. If not, I’m going to have to show a little favoritism and pick the crown knuckle for my big boy Jack. <3

  5. We loved the Video ! YoYo thinks it is a PAWSOME Giveaway and he is giving Elvis “2 Paws up” 🙂

  6. Steer Sticks would be great to keep Shiloh calm and busy while his sister Cheyenne is recovering from surgery. She was recently diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer, and had to have part of her jaw removed this past Friday. The surgery went well, but recovery has been very bumpy. We obviously have to keep her calm, but have to keep Shiloh calm as well so he doesn’t hurt her. He’s been such a good boy, but it’s been very difficult for my high energy pup. So Cheyenne can’t have any treats, but Shiloh would sure appreciate the steer sticks!

  7. OMD! Finally!!! Finally! I don’t know what you did but I am able to come back to this site again. LOL

Pizzles? LOL. I’m checking that rated PG post.

I think going natural is important. Back in my hometown, my mom would always ask for the beef bones from the person who uses it to make beef broth. He sells beef stew just a couple of meters away from our house.

  8. Had to read about the Steer Sticks. The bunny was like a sponge. And yes, it sounds awkward putting the word bone and bully sticks in one sentence.

I stopped after reading the word “manhood”. You don’t get any more Silhouette Desire or Mills & Boon than that.

  9. So we finally got our paws on some Jones treats! Shiner had some jerky type samples, I regret not remembering what they were exactly. We also got a pork chin which I’m going to give to her soon. I know she will love it. She’d also love to try some of the other goodies in your giveaway 🙂
